When people think of Nha Trang, they often envision blue seas and white sands. However, there is another unique perspective where you can capture the entire curving bay and the vibrant city life from above. That is Co Tien Mountain—an ideal trekking spot right next to the city center. Let’s pocket this guide from IIGO to conquer this mountain!

1. Where is Co Tien Mountain? Directions Co Tien Mountain is located in the northwest of the city, in Vinh Hoa Ward. The mountain consists of three adjacent peaks, resembling a fairy lying with her hair flowing toward the East Sea.

  • Route: From the center, drive along Tran Phu coastal road, cross Tran Phu Bridge to Pham Van Dong Street. Pass the Hon Chong area, turn left onto Ngo Van So Street. Look for Alley 14 Ngo Van So, where you will find the trail to start your climb.

  • Parking: Trekking is free. You can park your motorbike at local houses along this alley (the most popular spot is Ms. Ly's house) for 5,000 VND – 10,000 VND.

2. The Trekking Journey: How many peaks are enough? The path up Co Tien Mountain is mainly open hills with existing trails, making it quite easy even for beginners.

  • Peak 1 – The Ideal Stop: Takes about 30 – 45 minutes to climb. This is a flat area with a direct view of the entire Nha Trang Bay.

💡 Tip: If your goal is sightseeing, photography, or overnight camping, Peak 1 is the perfect choice.

  • Peak 2 & 3: From Peak 1, it takes another 30 minutes of steeper climbing to reach the next peaks. The reward at the highest point (Peak 3) is a vast, pristine, and windy space.

3. Golden Hour: Hunting the "Sunset & City Lights" Combo To catch the magical transition of the coastal city, the ideal starting time is between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM.

  • Sunset Moment (4:30 PM – 5:30 PM): As you reach Peak 1, the sun begins to set behind the western mountains. The sky turns orange-pink then bright red, reflecting on the romantic sea.

  • City Lights Moment (6:30 PM): This is the most "expensive" performance. The entire Pham Van Dong – Tran Phu coastal road below lights up simultaneously, curving like a glowing silk ribbon embracing the ocean.

4. Safety Notes

  • Water: There are no shops or big trees on the mountain. You must bring at least 1 - 1.5 liters of water and some light snacks.

  • Lighting: If descending after dark, bring a dedicated flashlight. It gets very dark, and a phone flash is usually not bright enough for safety.

  • Attire: Wear stretchy, sweat-wicking sportswear and shoes with good grip to avoid slipping on gravel slopes.

  • Environment: Be a civilized traveler. Do not litter and remember to bring all trash and bottles back down with you.
